All the wines are safely tucked away in barrels and tanks and the nets are (almost) off. Vintage 2013 was the driest and most consistently warm that we have seen though the extreme temperatures of 2009 weren’t reached. The constant heat and dryness resulted in a ‘compact’ harvest where all varieties ripened within 2 weeks of each other…a logistical headache! It has all been worth it, however, as the colour, flavour and tannin captured is unprecedented at Lithostylis. Pinot Noir flavours have edged toward black cherry and are intense. Tannin is fine and copious. We expect the 2013 vintage to be long-lived and will perhaps be the finest we have produced….though time will tell : )

The season leading up to the 2011 Vintage will be remembered for its coolness, constant rainfall and heartbreak. It will also be remembered by us as the year we truly fell in love with Chardonnay! What a grape, what a wine! Responding to the conditions, the Chardonnay grape has beguiled us with its elegance, purity, finesse and aroma. The 2011 Ironstone Chardonnay is our finest to date and is set for a long and exciting future. We have limited quantities of this wine and to be honest, are not thrilled at the prospect of parting with it! It is tightly-wound and aromatic now, but what really excites us is what it seems destined become. Definitely a cellar-worthy classic. Buy online or email dean@lithostylis.com

The Lithostylis 2010 Ironstone Pinot Noir, grown 100% on the volcanic Ironstone soils of South Gippsland, displays the vibrant acidity, aromatics, lightness of palate and fine tannins which we associate with the Pinot Noir-Ironstone interaction. A sweet nose of strawberries, lavender and white chocolate gives way to a spicy palate, with background notes of raspberry, mandarin and coffee. The palate shows mouth-watering acidity and a lingering savoury finish. A light and balanced Pinot Noir, with fine supporting tannins. The Lithostylis 2010 Chardonnay-Viognier displays strong aromas of apricot, toast, almonds, grapefruit and white flowers. The palate is rich, with strong, lingering stone fruit flavours and some savoury phenolics to provide structure. The co-fermentation of Chardonnay with Viognier has elevated the aromatics and richness of the palate, whilst still retaining the finesse and citrus backbone of a straight Chardonnay. It is a wine which is not for the faint-hearted, packed full of flavour, structure and aroma. You can buy both of these wines at our online shop.
